About this site
Public Records Help Finder is an independent, community-minded guide for people who need public records or local history, with detailed guides for New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine and public records law summaries for 24 more states and federal FOIA: residents asking their town for documents, and family historians tracing ancestors.
What it is not
- Not legal advice, not a law firm, not a government agency.
- Not the only or a complete guide. Other resources exist, including official state pages, the Vermont Secretary of State's municipal assistance, the Maine Attorney General's FOAA pages, and genealogy societies.
How facts are handled
We include a fact only if we read it on an official page, and we show the link and the date we checked it. Some topics are marked not yet verified rather than guessed. Re-checks are planned on a regular schedule.
Corrections and removal requests
We work to keep every page accurate. If you spot an error, an outdated detail, or information about you that you want corrected or removed, email [email protected] with the page link and what needs fixing.
How we handle it:
- We review every correction or removal request within 7 days.
- If something is wrong, we fix it or remove it.
- When we correct a page, we add a note at the bottom with the date of the correction.
- If we decide no change is needed, we reply and explain why.
